In the original debut of The Broken Seder, Bay Area Jewish artist Day Schildkret reimagines the ancient Passover Seder plate as a profound meditation on Jewish identity and resilience in an era of rising antisemitism. This immersive installation transforms a familiar ritual into a powerful exploration of the emotional spectrum of being Jewish today – grappling with brokenness, grief, pride and renewal. Through bold symbolism, layered soundscapes, and an evocative atmosphere, The Broken Seder invites us to utilize its profound combination of art and ritual as a tool for navigating collective and personal uncertainties. It asks us to contemplate the question at the heart of the seder: What makes this time different than all other times?

You’ll need a ticket for a specific date and time to enter the exhibit. Each visit starts on time and lasts 60 minutes.

About the Artist

Day Schildkret is internationally renowned as the author, artist and teacher behind the Morning Altars movement, inspiring tens of thousands of people to make life more beautiful and meaningful through ritual, nature and art. A North Bay resident, Schildkret is an award-winning Jewish queer author, artist, ritualist and teacher. He is the author of two acclaimed books, Hello, Goodbye: 75 Rituals for Times of Loss, Celebration, and Change and Morning Altars: A 7-Step Practice to Nourish Your Spirit through Nature, Art, and Ritual, both of which have redefined how people think about ritual and resilience in modern life.
