Britt Hawthorne – Antiracism for Young Children

The Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, Cow Hollow School, and The Little School invite you to a special event featuring nationally recognized antiracist and anti-bias educator Britt Hawthorne. In her comprehensive, thoughtful and practical guide Raising Antiracist Children Britt teaches caregivers about raising children in informed, actionable, and accountable ways. Through stories, activities, tools, and questionnaires, Britt showcases the power we each have to become upstanders to bias, make change, and work towards justice. Britt will discuss the book’s central themes as well as the historic foundations of race and practical ways you can support your family’s anti-racism journey. You’ll leave understanding your child’s development, how to respond to their big questions, and how to prepare your home to support your family goals: Raising caring, empathetic and justice-centered kids.

Appearing in conversation with Britt is Natasha Yglesias, co-author of Raising Antiracist Children.

A joint presentation sponsored by the JCCSF, Cow Hollow School and The Little School, this program is ideal for families with young children (birth-infants), teachers, Early Childhood Education providers, undergraduate and graduate students, and others interested in social justice, families, and antiracism.

Britt Hawthorne (they/she) is the author of the 2022 New York Times best-selling Raising Antiracist Children: A Practical Parenting Guide, an interactive guide for strategically incorporating the tools of inclusivity into everyday life and parenting. Britt is also an antiracist educator, teacher, speaker, visionary, and advocate committed to raising a generation of antiracist children by centering families of the global majority and fostering equitable learning environments for students and children of all ages and backgrounds. Britt’s work moves the idea of equity in education from a goal to reality. She partners with action-orientated educators to create classroom environments that are inclusive and equitable for all learners.

Compassionate and challenging, Britt’s voice continues to be sought-after for training and workshops at schools and universities across the nation. Her work has been recognized by PBS, the National Education Association, Drew Barrymore, Google Edu, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Rice University, the Association Montessori Internationale, and countless more.

Britt has traveled extensively to speak at conferences, authored publications, and appeared on podcasts covering social justice, liberation, and equity in education. And, she keeps the conversation moving forward.

Natasha Yglesias is a writer and editor based in Northern California. A graduate of the Bennington Writing Seminars, her fiction has appeared in many online journals such as Third Point Press, Waypoints Magazine, and Lockjaw Magazine. She’s currently a fiction reader for Post Road Magazine and The Line Literary Review. Raising Antiracist Children is Natasha’s first non-fiction book.
