Music To Vote By: Songs Promoting Democracy

With election day quickly approaching, voting in local, state, and national races is as crucial as it’s ever been.  Music historian Richie Unterberger presents a series of film clips stressing the importance of participation in democracy and in social justice. Rock, folk, jazz, and other styles from several eras will be featured, with performances ranging from Leonard Cohen, Judy Collins, Patti Smith, and Bob Marley to Phil Ochs, Curtis Mayfield, Abbey Lincoln, Eddie Cochran, and Laura Nyro. 

Rock historian Richie Unterberger is the author of numerous rock history books, including volumes on the Beatles, the Who, the Velvet Underground, Bob Marley, and 1960s folk-rock. He teaches courses on rock and soul music history at several Bay Area colleges. His latest book, San Francisco: Portrait of a City, was published by Taschen in 2022.
