Introduction to Age-friendly Design

Learn about an approach to age-friendly living that values connection and delight as much as safety and challenges you to think about aging as an extreme sport, deserving excellent tools and imaginative solutions for optimal living! Ask yourself what is unique about you and what you love about your home – two questions that will help you set priorities in adapting your home to your needs.  

This talk is an introduction to human centered age-friendly design thinking and an overview of the Aging 360 workshop offered by the nonprofit At Home with Growing Older. Aging 360 guides participants through creative exercises to rediscover their home as a partner in their unique aging experiences.

Susanne Stadler, Executive Director of At Home with Growing Older, architect and inclusive design activist has dedicated her practice to designing spaces that engage, empower and delight people of all ages. Her interior design work for the Annenberg GenSpace in Los Angeles was quoted in the New York Times and discussed on NPR’s Morning Edition. She was named a Head Turner by the online magazine, Shondaland, for her innovative approach to helping people age in place. Marc Freedman, Co-CEO of CoGenerate called it “a prototype for a new kind of institution, a new space to reimagine aging.”  

Now Susanne Stadler has taken her experience to the private home, showing people how simple and inexpensive adaptations to their homes can have a big impact on their ability to live longer independently, on their own terms.
