A community–wide event at the JCCSF

In partnership with several Jewish–affiliated organizations based in San Francisco (see full running list below), we are hosting a large Shabbat dinner to provide a much-needed sense of community for Jews and their families during this time. 

The past weeks have been among our darkest in modern Jewish history. The horrors we witnessed on October 7, the ongoing hostage crisis in Gaza, the outbreak of war and the rapid rise in antisemitism have made being Jewish difficult and often isolating.   

Many in the Jewish community are still seeking time and space to appropriately mourn and process the single deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. Discussions about October 7 and the ensuing war are difficult, and many are uncomfortable to have conversations at work, online, or in public. 

To respond to this unprecedented moment, we are doing what Jews have done throughout history in times like these — come together to love and support each other and contend with it all. 

We’re creating a safe space for authentic connection, and welcome you to come together for a Shabbat meal to find solace in the company of others and share meaningful conversations.  

Please join us to welcome in Shabbat with brief blessings. There will be no formal program or speeches.  

Everyone is encouraged to spread the word and bring a friend. Children are welcome to attend. 

Tickets are $10 to offset the cost of food, provided by local kosher caterer Hummus Bodega.
